The ambitious goals of the energy transition can only be achieved by using modern information and communication technology (ICT). The fields of application comprise automation and control systems in virtually every domain as well as support systems that motivate and enable consumers to make decisions and form habits that support a sustainable development. The majority of applications focus on electricity, transportation systems, and space heating and include issues in smart grids, e-mobility, and home automation. Recently, the use of ICT to promote water conservation has also gained considerable attention. This development is driven by the eminent water stress in many parts of the world as well as by the considerable amount of energy that is used for water heating in countries where water is abundant. In this workshop, we will especially target – and invite contributions addressing – applications of ICT to promote (hot) water conservation among citizens as well as the design of intelligent water networks. Topics include but are not limited to ways to retrieve data on water use, analytics to recognize relevant consumption behavior, ways to simulate water use and water networks, techniques to recognize leakages, the nexus between water and energy use, and ICT-based behavioral intervenes that motivate a target behavior. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to showcase demonstrators and best practices.

Researchers are invited to submit papers (max. 6 pages) and abstracts (max. 2 pages). Research papers will be evaluated in a double-blind review process. Anonymized submissions in German or English can be submitted via this site. Accepted papers written in English or German will be published in the proceedings of the conference in Lecture Notes in Informatics (LNI). Submission have to be compliant to the LNI format (all necessary information is available here: https://www.gi.de/index.php?id=171). Please make sure that at least one author registers for the conference INFORMATIK 2016 before June 28 in order to participate at the workshop and to publish in the proceedings.
